Staunton running out of excuses

By Team Talk
Sunday, 14th March 2010
The Quakers have now gone eight matches without a win as they tasted defeat on the road for the 14th time this season, with their battle against the drop seeming a hopeless one.

Staunton said: "I think the effort of Tuesday night's draw at Bury took its toll on the players in the first half but at least in the second half we made a much better fist of it. We had a couple of chances but weren't able to take any of them.

"You can't keep giving yourselves a mountain to climb and expect to get results. We started to compete in the second half and you don't get anything out of games unless you do that.

"The first goal was a shocker from a defensive point of view for us and the disappointing thing is that it is the experienced players that are making mistakes."

Staunton is intent on pursuing the rebuilding path for next season, which will almost certainly be in the Blue Square Premier. He added: "We have been building from January with the younger players but we want to finish the season positively and keep things going."
