THE MAGIC SPONGE WITH PAUL GOUGH

Paul has had a busy week on the treatment table, Matty Appleby has got over his thigh strain which he received against Hartlepool Reserves a week gone Wednesday,

Matty trained on Wednesday night just before the reserve game with Lincoln he’s come back with no problems.

Jon Jo Dickman also trained with Appleby after coming off with a twisted ankle he sustained in a tackle early in the game with Mansfield. Jon jo had a collision with a Mansfield player then he went over on it again. Jonjo has had a history of ankle injuries, he’s had both ankle ligament injuries completely repaired he’ll always suffer from that in his future career so when he does he just has to let it settle to come back when he’s ready. So he should be fine. Sammy Russell has been training for around two weeks and should be just about ready to come back in. In respect of Russell’s absence he had a impact injury which caused the muscle to become damaged, you get a lot of swelling and you get a blood clot which gets into the area. As the problem with the calf settled down we had Sammy in for another x-ray, to see more clearly what’s been going on. It showed there had been a very small hairline fracture so small in fact by the time he’d had the x ray all it showed was the reaction which was there to suggest which had gone on to suggest their was a hairline fracture. The fracture has now fully healed and the consultant has said he can play when he’s ready to play again. If Sammy can get through pain that he may feel he’s fit to play. Neil Wainwright has been in for a bit of attention wainy sprained his ankle three weeks agohe’s done really well to be playing on it since then and he’s just had to have a little touch up every now and then. Brian Close has got tendonitis in his ankle so he is missing from training, he’s been missing for so long his muscles are not used to what he’s been doing so he will have two or three days rest before he goes to Lillishall next week to build up his fitness then when he comes back he should be in a reserve game the week after. Clarke Keltie is back he had his stitches out on Thursday, but he’s been on crutches for two months so he will be back in the gym on Monday have two weeks in their then two weeks outside then should be back to playing in a months time. Elie Ikangu is to have ten days rest after damaging his groin. He goes back to France then when he comes back he’ll be ready to play again so he’s looking for ten days before being ready to play again. Goughy joked yesterday apart from Clark Keltie everyone was training so I’ll have to just read the paper.
